Anyone can join and find an enjoyable and fulfilling niche in our amateur drama company, The Chipstead Players. Acting is only a part of what is involved in getting a show together. There are many practical backstage roles related to our productions and to theatre management, plus we own and maintain our theatre building in rural Chipstead at the same time.

Here are some of the ways in which you can become involved:

Acting

Acting

Tread the boards – by auditioning and being cast in a play.

Set Design

Use your creative talents to help plan and design our stunning stage sets.

Lighting

Join the team who design and operate the stage lighting which enhances all our productions.

Sound

Assist play directors in choosing music and sound effects, create them if necessary and operate the computer-based control board.

Costumes

Design and create costumes, head-dresses and so on for the stage; Dress cast members for their parts, look after and add to the incredible wardrobe we have stored at the theatre.

Properties

Source or make props – we have a well-stocked props store – and manage them for use by the actors in a production.

Set Building

Help with the construction and decoration of our sets in our own scenery workshop.

Set Dressing

Add furniture and decorative touches to give the sets an authentic and interesting look.

Front of House

Get involved whenever there’s a show on: meet and greet our audiences, sell programmes and ice creams, run the box office or the bar – or be in charge overall.

Management

Theatre Management

There is a large number of members who run things behind the scenes. You could assist our PR team, help run the website, assist with the production of a play or maybe join the team of people who read plays before they are selected for production.

Buildings Maintenance

Assist with keeping our theatre building in good order – a whole range of skills is needed, and you would be welcome to help in whatever way you can!

Society Management

The Chipstead Players are an amateur drama society which owns The Courtyard Theatre. We run our enterprise as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and as such there is a Trustee Board responsible for all financial and other big decisions. If you are interested in this type of involvement, it is possible to join the Board after 2 years’ membership.

As a member, you’ll be able to get involved in all our activities. New productions start on a regular basis, and you can apply to join in with any production. From rehearsing to set designing, creation of costumes and a lot more.

All our adult members are entitled to two discounted tickets for all our shows. We also offer regular social events for all members to attend.

You’ll get to meet friendly members who will make you feel very welcome and who are more than willing to offer the benefit of their experience if required!

You’ll be kept fully-informed with our regular members’ mailshots and the members’ section of this website.
